Understanding the Movement and Establishment of Invasive Freshwater Species
Presented by Peder Englestad, PhD, Colorado State University
Understanding the potential movement and establishment of invasive freshwater species is essential to early detection and rapid response (EDRR) strategies. This webinar will present a novel approach that combines current and future habitat suitability (from species distribution models) with pathways information to generate invasion risk scores for more than 100 freshwater invaders (fishes, plants, and invertebrates) to help inform EDRR approaches. This approach produces comprehensive, regionally mapped coverage of invasion risk for freshwater systems in the northeast United States.
Peder Engelstad is a spatial ecologist in the Vogeler Lab at Colorado State University where he works primarily on the development of novel quantitative methods to support the management of invasive species. He is an experienced R programmer and the primary developer on the Invasive Species Habitat Tool (INHABIT; gis.usgs.gov/inhabit).
