As part of the certified lake monitoring process, Lake Stewards of Maine (LSM) and the Maine Department on Environmental Protection (DEP), ensure the calibration and functionality of all volunteer water quality dissolved oxygen meters. This service is FREE, the only cost potentially arising from replacement of components in a meter – we will consult with you about this.

The central step in this process is MeterFest. MeterFest is a one or two day event where LSM and DEP staff will check the condition and operation of dissolved oxygen meters that have been sent / brought in at no charge. We conduct routine maintenance to the extent possible and we test the equipment in the lab and evaluate the performance of the meter. This service generally costs hundreds of dollars when provided by a manufacturer or affiliated technician.

This year we have one shipping option and four drop-off locations: the LSM office in Auburn, the Augusta DEP office, the Presque Isle DEP office, and the Penobscot County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) in Bangor.ย

Because this is a time-consuming task, we ask that you attempt to get your meter to us for MeterFest and that you review and follow all of the steps in the MeterFest Checklist.

ย  April 11, 2024, is MeterFest.ย ย

All meters must arrive prior to April 11th.

If you need to have a meter inspected prior to April 11, please contact Linda Bacon directly to set up a time to meet. Contact information in the form below.
If you miss MeterFest, we can still check your meter, but it may not be as quick a turn-around. Contact information in the form below.
