What is MeterFest?
As part of the certified lake monitoring process, Lake Stewards of Maine (LSM) and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) provide free calibration and maintenance for volunteer water quality dissolved oxygen meters. The only potential cost is for replacement components, which we will discuss with you beforehand.
At MeterFest, LSM and DEP staff:
- Inspect and test dissolved oxygen meters at no charge
- Perform routine maintenance (when possible)
- Evaluate equipment performance in a controlled lab setting
This service typically costs hundreds of dollars when done by a manufacturer or technician—but it’s free for you!
Drop-Off & Shipping Options
This year, we offer shipping to Augusta DEP or drop-off at five locations:
- Auburn – LSM Office
- Augusta – DEP Office
- Bangor – Penobscot County Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD)
- Portland – DEP Office
- Presque Isle – DEP Office
Since this process takes time, we ask that you submit your meter for MeterFest and follow all steps in the MeterFest Checklist.
Did you miss MeterFest this year?
Don’t worry, please reach out to stewards@lakestewardsme.org to schedule an alternative time to have your meter checked. It takes longer when not participating in MeterFest, but we want to make sure all DO monitors have the chance to have their meters inspected.
